Everyone loves the Cinderella story and there’s an amazing version of the enchanting fairy tale coming to San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House for ten performances: May 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. The long-awaited U.S. premiere of choreographer Christopher Wheeldon’s spectacular production that is sure to knock your socks off (or, at the very least, your glass slipper, if it happens to be the right fit). Based on the fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm and Perrault, this truly unique co-production with the Dutch National Ballet, features a little bit of everything so that everyone in the audience will find the show memorable. There is impressive music by Prokofiev and breathtaking sets and costumes designed by Julian Crouch.
Opening night for Cinderella will take place on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. In keeping with the theme of the classic story, there will be an Opening Night Ball, beginning with a cocktail reception at 5:00 p.m. in the lobby of the War Memorial Opera House, followed by dinner. An after party in the tented pavilion features Cinderella cast members in this black-tie affair with refreshments, dessert and dancing. As an added bonus, audiences are invited to attend several Meet the Artist interviews, which will take place at the Opera House one hour before the May 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, and 12 performances. These 30-minute sessions feature dancers and choreographers in conversation with a moderator.
