San Francisco's Chinese New Year Festival
The Southwest Chinese New Year Festival and Parade in San Francisco celebrates the Year of the Snake with a fun, two-day street fair and family friendly evening parade. Immerse yourself in Chinese culture at the Chinatown Community Street Fair, where you can stroll the streets of Chinatown, see Chinese musicians, acrobats and dancing dragons, get your name written in Chinese, buy gifts and festival keepsakes, and enjoy mouth-watering traditional Chinese food and delicacies. After spending a day at the Street Fair, enjoy the entertaining Lunar New Year parade with more than 100 parade members, including Chinese lions, multicolored floats, martial arts groups, exploding firecrackers, Miss Chinatown USA, and the remarkable Golden Dragon puppet carried by over 50 puppeteers. The parade route starts at Market Street and takes an indirect route to its final stop at the Chinatown gates. San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade starts at 5:15pm (rain or shine) on Saturday, February 23rd and lasts roughly 2-½ hours. Visitors can enjoy the Chinese New Year Parade free of charge, although limited reserved bleacher seat tickets are available for $30 each, plus $8 shipping. Bleacher seats for children under 2 are free. The Chinatown Community Street Fair is open Saturday, February 23rd from 10am-4:30pm and Sunday, February 24th from 9am-5pm. Street Fair admission is free.
