Upcoming Exhibits at the Legion of Honor
Situated overlooking the bay in beautiful Lincoln Park, the Legion of Honor art museum is a true jewel of San Francisco. As you enjoy some of the world’s finest art works surrounded by majestic architecture, you can take in stunning views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge. A little bit off-the-beaten-path, this is a cultural experience you won’t soon forget.
The impressive collection spans over 6,000 years of art from ancient decorative art and sculptures to European masterpieces and modern photography. Highlights include the Skinner Organ from 1924 that comes to life every Saturday and Sunday for exclusive concerts at 4 pm. Rodin’s famous Thinker sculpture depicting Dante is also on display, as well the leather bound Book of Gold that is put on display every November to honor California veterans.
The museum has a long history of offering excellent exhibitions, and 2015 promises to bring a host of great events to the galleries. From March 15 to July 19, visitors can see the fabulous Brooklyn Museum costume collection that shows off elaborate women fashions from the 20th Century. Special tickets will be required for this rare opportunity to see vintage fashion up close. If you love drawings, watercolors and sketches, then don’t miss the British Works on Paper, 1770-1870 exhibit from July 18 to November 22. Also on display will be 100 pieces of extremely rare porcelain from the Malcolm D. Gutter collection on offer until August 2015. These latter two exhibits are included in the regular admission price for the museum.
