St. Patrick's Day San Francisco
Get your Green Ready! St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and there’s no better way to celebrate this festive event than by attending San Francisco’s 162nd St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Irish Festival on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The parade gets underway at 11:30 a.m. on the corner of Market and Second Streets and it’s pretty darn popular. How popular? It attracts about 100,000 spectators. And it’s rather rollicking, too. Maybe not as rollicking as the San Francisco Giants World Series parades but it’s definitely something you do not want to miss. As for what you’ll see while watching the parade, it’s a combination of some pretty cool things. There will be more than 100 brightly colored floats, dazzling Irish dance troupes and some of the finest marching bands. San Francisco Fire Department Chief Joanne Hayes-White will be the Grand Marshall of the parade, which will feature a wide array of groups representing the Irish community from all around the Bay Area. Look out for youth organizations, schools, cultural groups, and representatives from the city’s police and fire departments.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will end at the Civic Center Plaza, where the equally poplar Irish Festival will already be in full swing as it starts one-half hour before the parade at 11:00 a.m. Running non-stop until 5:00 p.m., the festival serves up a Irish helping of history and culture along with a ton of fun things to do. For one, there will be plenty o’ live music from such eclectic sources as The Gas Men and The Hooks. What’s more, there will be arts and crafts exhibitors, cultural displays, and several booths from various non-profits representing the Irish community. Definitely don’t leave the kids at home as they’ll have plenty to do as well. Everything from children’s rides and jumpy houses to a petting zoo and pony rides will keep the little ones engaged. They’re sure to build up a big appetite, too, and that’s where the food and drink concession stands will surely come in handy. Clearly, there are plenty of activities to keep one busy at the 2013 San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Irish Festival whose theme is “Honoring The Celtic Woman.” More details are available at http://sf.funcheap.com/san-franciscos-st-patricks-day-parade/.
