Join thousands of local San Franciscans for a two-day event celebrating the diverse community of Asian-Pacific culture. On August 1 and 2 over 30,000 people will gather to enjoy art, live music, and food in a tradition that dates back to 1973. The Nihonmachi Street Fair is known for creating a melting pot culture that the Bay Area is famous for. It all takes place in the historic Japantown neighborhood located just about a mile away from our boutique hotel.
There are two stages presenting live music and entertainment. Past years have seen a great mix of bands including Sheila E, Azteca, Hiroshima, and Jorge Santana. Performances have included everything from Hawaiian music to Japanese dance. 2015 promises to present a stellar lineup that you won't want to miss.
Along with live entertainment, you can shop, eat, and play the day away with plenty of fun things to do for the whole family. Asian artisans line the street selling a unique selection of handmade wares, jewelry, and gifts for every budget and age group. At the Children's World tent kids can play games and participate in hands-on activities like making Asian crafts. Of course, the music will be playing all day, and you can expect to see live acts ranging from experienced Taiko troupes and jazz to hip-hop groups and salsa bands. Sounds of Thunder Car Show is a dream come true for any motor enthusiast showcasing a collection of vintage and muscle cars that you can see up close. Mark your calendars for the beginning of August and join in the fun!
