Since 1923, the San Francisco Opera has been uniting those in the Bay Area with world-class performances and a roster of international opera stars. It's featured the likes of Vladimir Atlantov, Gerd Albrecht, Leontyne Price, and more for works ranging from A Streetcar Named Desire to The Secret Garden.
Now for its newest production, the San Francisco Opera will be presenting Wagner's first masterpiece, The Flying Dutchman. This mythic tale tells the story of a ship's captain who's condemned to navigate the seas for eternity; the only way the spell can be broken is by a woman's love. This three-hour performance, beginning in late October, features a star-studded cast of wholly talented artists, led by Greer Grimsley, who first thrilled audiences with his work in 2009's Salome.
Opera aficionados will also see the debut performance of Lise Lindstrom, who plays Grimsley's love interest Senta, alongside Ian Storey, Kristinn Sigmundsson, A.J. Glueckert, and Erin Johnson. The musical will be performed in German with English subtitles for patron's convenience.
Tickets start at $27 for the Balcony, $36 for the Grand Tier, $335 for Box seats, and $109 for Orchestra. Performances run Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings until November 15th. And lucky for ticketholders, you can even enjoy pre-opera talks for free beforehand.
