September 12 – 15, 2013Discover the beautiful and creative connection between the movement of dance and the timeless essence of film at the 2013 San Francisco Dance Film Festival. Presented by the San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Film Society, this amazing dance screen competition and conference is an international celebration of the art and aesthetics of dance on camera. Created to develop and present dance-based films in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival is an amazing collaboration of independent artists, dancers and filmmakers to perpetuate the dance on film genre in the modern digital medium. The exciting four-day event will include film programs, parties, panel presentations, workshops, and the screening of 49 dance-based films, as well as documentaries and performances on viewing stations at the Museum of Performance + Design. Workshops bring to the life the dynamic force of dance through filmmaking and ways to capture captivating dance performances on the flat dimension of film. Now its third edition, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival is a vibrant celebration of dance – from ballet to modern - on camera, encompassing a broad range of interpretations from visual artists, animators, composers and live dance performers. SFDFF’s programming highlights many sub-genres such as “screendance,” short experimental dance pieces created for film, as well as filmic interpretations of dance performances originally designed for the stage. Viewers will also see unique documentaries on the process of creating dance - from historical sketches to behind-the-scenes looks at the most innovative choreographers of our day.
