A San Francisco running tradition for 101 years, Bay to Breaker is a 12k race held on the third Sunday in May filled with novice, serious and colorful costumed participants. Through the century of history, Bay to Breakers has been a highlight for the San Francisco’s fondness for colorful, eclectic traditions.
The name reflects a challenging and beautiful course taking tens of thousands of runners from the “bay” side of the city to the “breakers” of Ocean Beach. The 7.46 mile footrace features athletes from around the globe racing through streets lined with energetic spectators hosting watering stations and bursting of loud music.
The San Francisco spirit shines through with the thousands of festive costumed participants, multitude of families, walkers and recreational weekend runners that take to the streets of beautiful San Francisco. Bay to Breakers is one of the world’s oldest and largest races drawing over 100,000 spectators annually. In 1986, the race set a Guinness Book record with 110,000 participants.
