The ice skating season is underway in San Francisco, and there's no place like the Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square to experience the magic of the season. This annual tradition is where memories are made with kids and adults of all ages and skaters of all levels taking turns darting around the rink. With the bright lights of San Francisco's most popular neighborhood surrounding you as you glide across the ice, you'll feel the warmth of the city's holiday spirit. No visit to San Francisco is complete without a visit to the Holiday Rink. Even if you just want to take in the festive scene from the sidelines, it's still a worthwhile holiday atmosphere. There's a gigantic Christmas tree, all of Union Square's famous stores are decked out for the season and there are several special events in December and January. The rink season lasts through January 19, so you'll even have time to skate after the holiday season. The rink is open from 10 am to 11:30 pm, with 90-minute skating periods offered throughout the day. General admission for each session costs $11 for adults and children (eight and under) are $7. Feel free to bring your own skates, but don't worry if you don't have any. You can still rent a pair for $6, making it a convenient holiday stop for family and friends, whether you plan ahead or go for a spur of the moment skate. And if you happen to be in San Francisco on December 3 or January 7, those days are completely free for all patrons!
